Wear the Earrings

Wear the Earrings — Jewels By Nora journal cover.

Nora used to have a habit.

She would save things.

The good perfume was for dinner.

The beautiful glasses were for guests.

A new blouse needed the right occasion.

And jewelry?

There were pieces she loved that spent far too much time waiting patiently inside a box.

Then, at some point, she stopped.

There was no dramatic reason.

She simply realized that ordinary days had been taking up most of her life.

So she started wearing the earrings.

Not because she was going somewhere special.

Because it was Wednesday.

She wore a necklace to buy flowers.

A bracelet while cooking dinner.

Rings when she knew perfectly well the only person she might see that afternoon was the woman behind the counter at the bakery.

And something changed.

Not the day itself.

Just the way she moved through it.

That has always been one of Nora's favorite things about jewelry.

It does not need to transform you into somebody else.
Sometimes it just makes you feel a little more like yourself.

There is no rule saying the necklace you love should spend six days a week waiting for Saturday night.

There is no minimum importance a day needs before you are allowed to dress for it.

The nice things do not have to be saved.

Life already gives us enough things to postpone.

Jewelry does not need to be one of them.

So wear the earrings.

Put on the necklace.

Stack the bracelets even if you are only meeting a friend for coffee.

The occasion can simply be that you wanted to.

Nora certainly thinks that is enough.
